Airtel Uganda renews partnership with Buganda Kingdom

Mengo, Uganda – Airtel Uganda today announced the renewal of the Telecom Company’s partnership with Buganda Kingdom at a press conference held at Buganda Kingdom Headquarters at Bulange, Mengo.

This press conference was graced by Buganda Kingdom officials led by Omumbejja Naalinya Victoria, princess of Buganda and Owek. Mohamood Ssemambo, the Second Deputy Prime Minister of Buganda. The Airtel Uganda team was led by Mr. Tom Gutjahr, the Company’s Managing Director.

Clad in a kanzu, Airtel Uganda Managing Director Mr. Tom Gutjahr expressed his honor at once again, partnering with the Buganda Kingdom. “This is the second time Airtel Uganda is joining hands with Buganda kingdom; last year, we partnered with the Kingdom on several projects, including “Twezimbe” where we established a fund that would collect funds to cater for various Kingdom development initiatives,” he said.

“On behalf of Airtel Uganda, I would like to pledge our future commitment and support to the Buganda Kingdom, its people and its activities, as we unite to maintain the good glory of this Kingdom,” Gutjahr added.

The partnership with Buganda Kingdom will see Airtel Uganda facilitating the kingdom with UGX 170,000,000/- per year for the next three years to cater to four of the most important Buganda Kingdom activities. These include; the Kabaka Run, Kabaka’s birthday, the Kabaka’s coronation as well as Eid El Fitri.

The Airtel Uganda staff members led by the Managing Director, later held a meeting with the Katikkiro, Dr. Charles Mayiga in his office.
