Fresh Face Friday: Carol Nantambi on Her New Site And The Challenges of Plus-size Modeling

Meet our Fresh Face today, Carol Nantambi, a plus-size model with a passion for charity and community work. She just launched her new site which you can check out here, and hopes to inspire every plus-size girl out  there.

How did you get into modeling?

I have always had a passion for fashion modeling. I remember, as a child I had magazine cuttings all over my room. But, it all started after Miss Uganda. Miss Uganda gave me the platform, and there I was getting booked for runway shows.

What makes a good model?

A good model must possess some unique qualities and features. They should also be very professional and business savvy.

Tell us about your site you just launched.

The site is my platform to promote my work, and also inspire other models out there. I’ll be upgrading it in a few months, so expect to see something better soon. The response has been empowering, I have to be serious on it.

You are former  beauty queen, what’s more exciting, pageantry or fashion modeling?

That’s a hard one. I’ve found both really exciting. Fashion modeling is fun but fierce, whilst pageantry is glamorous but competitive. I would say, both are exciting.

What has been the most exciting project you’ve worked on so far in your career?

Those will be two. I have done a billboard ad and a magazine spread.

What are some of the challenges you’ve faced as a plus-size model trying to make it in Kampala?

I guess I’m just lucky, I haven’t faced any major challenges so far. What happened though, was, some people found my lingerie shoot a tad too racy. You know how Ugandans are conservative.

I’m really business savvy. I just ventured into event management. I’ll be having an event in Rwanda, still working on details.

What advice do you give other plus-size models out there?

Focus, and if you want something, go for it.
