By  |

Julie Gichuru is undoubtedly the most popular Kenyan TV news anchor in East Africa.  She  has earned great admiration among both the young and old not only for her beauty but also for her enchanting personality.  News of singer Juliana Kanyomozi losing her son Keron broke her heart so deeply, she took to her twitter to express her emotions.

Heartbreaking : May GOD console for losing her only son this morning

Julie too lost her son in 2005 and this she says has been the worst thing to ever happen to her. However this is one of those things people barely know about her. While responding to questions from the audience during a poetry session last year, one gentleman asked Julie on one thing that she would give up in her life. Julie opened up and tearfully answered that question from the bottom of her heart.

. “I have already given up on my child who died under God’s watch and there was nothing I can do about it.”

“My house help was feeding the child, he got choked, rushed to the hospital, the doctors managed to resuscitate him, but later could not stand  the amount of adrenaline injected in his body, the boy left us,” she opened up.

In the beginning of my career, it was really hard. I would read news two weeks in a month and work during the day. I saw my kids in the morning but not at night. There are seasons when you work really hard but there has got to be a break. It can’t just be this thing that is endless because it will suck the life out of you. You have to put in some boundaries.”

The shift in priorities was dictated by her own personal loss. “After losing David Mwaura I just thought some things are not so important. Kimoshe remembers him very well but Njeri’s memories of him are very vague. I still mourn him. I wrote him a poem yesterday and miss him yet we still feel blessed. You learn how to deal with it. It is not something that brings us down. Remembering him is something that brings us joy.” There is Kimoshe (10), Njeri (8), Daniel (4) who has taken to calling himself Dr. Dan and Joseph who turns one year this month.

We are all with Juliana during this trying time. Losing an only son is one of the most painful things to ever happen to any woman. However there’s life after it. Julie ‘s career  hit souring heights years after this rough patch. In an another interview she talks about how she assured her colleagues that she was going to get pregnant again to replace her dead son. A few months after, she was pregnant.

Julie currently works with Citizen TV (Royal Media Services) as a Group Digital Business Manager and talk show host. This she juggles with Arimus Media her own production company. She also owns MIMI Online an online shop that is a force to reckon with in the business of e-commerce in Nairobi.

The pain Juliana is going through right now is impossible to wipe away but there’s certainly life after it.
