How to dress like a boss

By  |

The unwritten rule for fashion at work has always been ‘Dress for the job you want, not the job you have’! Weighing in on the rule you realise that everyone loves to be a boss. Everyone aspires to get a promotion to a managerial position and be a boss. This bossy demeanor comes with a style routine so polished and composed. You have to maintain your personal style without losing the sophistication.

The office has pretty much become every woman’s runway. It’s the only place you can show it all off well because women now rule in the boardroom.

Here is a simple guide on how you can dress like a boss

1. Be daring. Be different. Everyone is going to wear a black dress. Everyone is going to wear a suit. How do you stand out? Remember that a boss makes the rules while her juniors follow them.Try something edgy such as a leather dress. Go for one that has minimal or no detail. The fact that it’s leather is enough drama to deal with.

Kill all accessories apart from the watch and wear this to work. Find this dress at House of Lukoma

2. If looking like a boss is what you want then a nice blazer is a must have. Go for a toned down colour palette if you want a bit of colour. The best colours are still purple and black, These colours work with almost everything you own your closet. Dare to be different by choosing that blazer with a bit of detail. Polka dots are the perfect choice here.

3. A full skirt with a conservative hemline is also a must have. A nice pencil skirt in a good colour will work well with most of the tops you already own. Wear only one dramatic piece. If it’s the skirt, keep everything else polished and simple.

4. You need a nice pair of stiletto heels because bosses don’t wear flats. Whilst the six-inch heel is the every woman’s best option, keep your heel as low as you can. If you can wear this shoe during a long presentation in front of very powerful people then it works. Please note that very high heels will make you look less serious.

5. Accessorize with simple pieces. some times just the watch is enough. When choosing earrings go for small studs and for necklaces less is definitely more. The trick is you don’t want to draw a lot of attention.

6. If you are the kind girl who loves pants, wear a pair of fitting pants most probably in black.

Other tips to note

  • Pant suits are  slowly losing their cool. However you can still wear one that is well fitted. Stay way from flared pants. They are so 2004.
  •  Strappy sandals are better than platform pumps.
  • Always maintain simple hairdos.
